Romania's Defence Minister Radu Miruta delivered a message on Tuesday, on the anniversary of four years of war in Ukraine, saying that that innocent people have ended up losing their families and homes due to the ambition of an aggressive regime.
He said that, despite manipulations and fear, Romania has rightly chosen to support Ukraine.
"Four years ago, the world changed one morning. A war in Europe, something that many of us thought impossible, started right next to our border. In the first days, Romania was extraordinary. We opened our houses. We helped. We showed solidarity. We were people. Today, that solidarity has turned into suspicion, quarrel and manipulation. We are told that we have bad roads, poor schools and insufficient hospitals because we have helped Ukraine. False," Miruta wrote in a social media post.
He denied the allegations that the aid provided to Ukraine would affect the development of Romania. Romania's problems "are not the fault of the victims" of a war, he adds.
"We have exactly the country that we have built in 36 years of democracy. Our problems are not the fault of the victims of a war. It's sad that propaganda has come to divide our families. It is sad that the lie has become stronger than reality. The reality is simple: two steps away from us, people are dying. Innocent people lose their homes, their families, their futures, all from the ambition of an aggressive regime. That is not an opinion. It's a fact. History will not remember noise, manipulation or fear. He will remember that Romania, even when divided, chose the right side. And that makes the difference between a small people and a large one," says the minister.
