A Romanian from Ukraine's Chernivtsi region has been fighting against Russians for four years and gives assurances that he will remain on the front as long as he is needed.
Vasile Palamariuc is 45 years old and is from Voloca.
From the first day of the Russian invasion, the ethnic Romanian decided to go to the front, and now he is in the Donbas region, where they are fighting among the fiercest battles between the Ukrainian and Russian armies.
It is not easy for him to stay away from his wife and two children, but he is willing to resist. He feels tired, but draws his energies from the desire for victory, as he says.
"I have made the decision that I must defend the country in which I was born. Especially since I am also an officer of the Ukrainian Army. Since the first day, February 24, 2022, they have been on the front. The hardest thing in this fight is the distance between me and my family. Otherwise, we slowly manage and hold our own against the enemy. Of course, we are also tired of war. It's already been four years of war. But we will be here as long as it takes to defend the country," Palamariuc told AGERPRES.
In his four years on the front line, he witnessed numerous scenes in which his colleagues were killed by the Russian army. This strengthened him and made him determined to fight to the end, "until Ukraine wins the rights trampled under by Putin's men."
"During a drone attack, a comrade was left without legs. The attack targeted me as well, but we managed to survive and get the comrade out of that area, to shelter him and to give him first aid. He didn't make any noise, but he was looking up at the sky with his eyes open. Forever his blue eyes looking up at the sky got imprinted in my memory...", said the soldier of Romanian origin.
