Ukraine is fighting for us all and is maintaining the security of the entire continent with admirable courage and resilience, President Nicusor Dan said on Tuesday.
In a Facebook post illustrated with a photograph in which he appears alongside his Ukrainian counterpart, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, President Nicusor Dan recalled that 'four years ago, one of the most terrible scenarios for Europe became reality.'
'Russia attacked Ukraine, launching a merciless war against a nation that refused to be defeated. Since then, Ukraine has been fighting for us all and maintaining the security of our entire continent with admirable courage and resilience. Families torn apart, unimaginable tragedies, lives lost, all these represent immense sacrifices and efforts for which we are grateful to the Ukrainian people,' the Romanian head of state highlighted.
Nicusor Dan underlined that 'Romania will support Ukraine as long as necessary.'
'Together with our partners in the European Union, we maintain that negotiations to end the war must continue until the conditions for a just peace are met, with security guarantees to prevent the possibility of any new conflict. Peace in Ukraine means peace for Europe. Anyone who threatens our citizens must know that our strength lies in unity. And the European Union is becoming increasingly stronger and more solidary,' the President of Romania said.
On Tuesday evening, to mark four years since the launch of Russia's invasion of Ukraine, the Cotroceni Presidential Palace will be illuminated in the colours of the Ukrainian flag.
