Nearly two thirds (62%) of professionals working in the construction and installations sector in Romania expect a decline in the volume of works in 2026, compared with the situation in the previous year, when 48% described themselves as pessimistic, according to data from a specialist report published recently.
According to the study 'Construction & Installations Market in Romania, 2026,' around half of companies in Romania lose resources due to technical changes occurring during execution (52%) and design errors (47%), confirming that operational efficiency remains a major challenge for the industry.
At the same time, external bottlenecks continue to affect workflow, with 46% of installers impacted by delayed payments and 40% by unrealistic deadlines imposed by partners.
The report also highlights that the industrial segment currently dominates activity (36%), but the medium-term outlook points to a shift in direction: mixed projects (27%) and public projects (23%) are seen as the main drivers of growth over the next 3-5 years.
Despite the uncertain context, 85% of companies plan investments in 2026, slightly down from 92% in the previous year, the difference being driven not by a lack of investment intent but by a change in direction, the study's authors note. Companies are therefore focusing more on consolidating their own infrastructure and complying with regulatory requirements, at the expense of expansion or research and development initiatives. At the same time, investment in people remains a priority, reflecting the direct pressure generated by staff shortages.
According to the quoted source, 84% of respondents say that the implementation of efficient solutions is directly requested by clients, while 73% quote compliance with industry regulations.
In terms of technological developments, the analysed data show that the solutions gaining the most traction are those that enable real-time operation and control of buildings. 'Automation, monitoring systems and the intelligent integration of installations are considered more relevant than solutions strictly focused on design or compliance, signalling a clear orientation towards performance in building operation,' the analysis says.
Moreover, nearly half of respondents (48%) say they need better commercial terms from suppliers, while 35% are calling for genuine technical support and practical product information.
Overall, 62% of all respondents stated that the volume of construction and installation works will decline this year. By comparison, in 2025, 48% said the same.
The report 'Construction & Installations Market in Romania, 2026' was prepared by MKOR, commissioned by Uniprest Instal, based on a sample of one hundred construction and installation execution companies.
Data collection was carried out through telephone questionnaires (CATI) between February and March 2026, with an average duration of 13 minutes.
