Dacian Ciolos will be, as of Monday, April 6, presidential advisor.
The decree signed by President Nicusor Dan was published on Friday in the Official Gazette of Romania.
"The President of Romania decrees: Sole Article - Starting with April 6, 2026, Mr. Dacian-Julien Ciolos is appointed to the position of presidential advisor," states the document signed on Friday by the head of state.

Dacian Ciolos was born in Zalau, on July 27, 1969, but grew up in the commune of Pericei, Salaj County, according to the website www.dacianciolos.eu.
After graduating from the Agricultural High School in Simleu Silvaniei (1983 - 1987), he attended the Faculty of Horticulture of the University of Agricultural Sciences and Veterinary Medicine in Cluj-Napoca (1989 - 1994), obtaining the diploma of horticultural engineer. He then studied in-depth agronomy, specializing in "Production Systems and Rural Development" at the École nationale supérieure agronomique (ENSAR) in Rennes, France, obtaining a French government scholarship (1995 - 1996) and a scientific master (DEA) in "Economics of agricultural, agri-food and rural development" at the École nationale supérieure d'Agronomie (ENSAM) and at the University of Montpellier I (1996 - 1997).
He began his professional activity as a trainee at the Directorate-General for Agriculture and Rural Development of the European Commission. He worked in a unit that was in charge of preparing SAPARD, the pre-accession program that had an essential contribution in preparing Romanian agriculture for participation in the Common Agricultural Policy and the European Single Market.
In 2002, he started working at the Delegation of the European Commission in Romania, where he was in charge of the implementation of the SAPARD Program. In 2005, he joined the team at the Ministry of Agriculture, where he was personal advisor to the Minister, with the duties of spokesperson for Romania within the Special Committee for Agriculture of the EU Council. Between May and October 2007, he was appointed Undersecretary of State for European Affairs within the Ministry of Agriculture.
He was Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development (October 11, 2007 - December 22, 2008).
Dacian Ciolos was appointed European Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development, taking office on February 9, 2010. During his mandate, which ended in 2014, he managed one of the most important portfolios, also carrying out the first reform of the Common Agricultural Policy.
On July 1, 2015, he was appointed Special Adviser for Food Security by the President of the European Commission, Jean-Claude Juncker.
On November 10, 2015, he was appointed Prime Minister by President Klaus Iohannis. His term ended on 4 January 2017.
He was elected as a Member of the European Parliament on the list of the 2020 USR PLUS Alliance, following the elections of 26 May 2019. On 17 June 2019, he submitted his candidacy for the leadership of the new centrist-liberal group "Renew Europe" ("We renew Europe") in the European Parliament, the former liberal ALDE group, at the head of which he was elected on 19 June 2019. He held the presidency of the Renew Europe group until October 2021.
Starting with 20 March 2025, Dacian Ciolos was appointed honorary advisor to the interim president of Romania, Ilie Bolojan, with the responsibility of being involved in the coordination and monitoring activities of the implementation of Romania's strategic partnerships.
