New car registrations increased in Romania in the first nine months of the year by almost 16%, to 78,769 units, compared to the same period in 2016, but the number of used car registrations was some five times higher, having reached 378,424 units, according to the statistics with the Driving License and Vehicle Registration Directorate (DRPCIV), consulted by AGERPRES.
In September 2017, the new car registrations stood at 10,425 units, up 11.37% over the same period of the previous year.
Also in September, more than 40,600 used cars were registered in Romania, by 34% more than in September 2016, when 30,308 units were registered.
From January to September 2017, function of the number of registered units, most of the requests were for the makes: Dacia (21,782 units, +10.64% over the first nine months of 2016), Volkswagen (7,548 units, +30.34), Skoda (6,711 units, +8.05%), Ford (6.370 units, +29.55%) and Renault (5,591 units, +11.11%).
On the other hand, on the segment of used cars, the first three places in terms of registrations are held by Volkswagen, with 98,919 units (+56.42% compared to January-September 2016), Opel (47,614, +30.84 %) and Ford (37,707 units, +50.40%)
According to the DRPCIV data, the national car fleet in Romania increased in 2016 by 6.21% from the previous year, having exceeded 7 million vehicles, of which over 1.25 million were registered in Bucharest.
Thus, out of the 1,253 million vehicles registered in Bucharest (about 18% of the total), slightly over one million units were cars. In the capital, most of the vehicles were, at the end of last year, 6-10 years old (346,594 units), followed by cars older than 11-15 years (301,648 units) and those with more than 20 years of wear (195,666 units).
The number of new cars (0-2 years old) in Bucharest at end-2016 was 134,322 units.
At national level, out of the total of 7,010,608 vehicles running on national roads late last year, 5.47 million (78%) were cars, up by over 6% compared to the end of 2015 when 5.15 million units were recorded. At end-2016, 3,036 million vehicles in Romania had Diesel engines (2,119 million cars), while 3,586 million cars had petrol engines.
