Almost 1.76 million employees will benefit from the increase in the gross minimum wage to 4,325 lei, from July 2026, according to the draft Decision for establishing the minimum gross basic wage guaranteed in payment nationwide, published on Friday by the Ministry of Labor.

"In Romania, 831,382 employees currently benefit from the guaranteed minimum gross basic salary, which represents 14.6% of the total number of active employees. A number of 1,759,027 employees will benefit from the increase in the guaranteed minimum gross basic salary nationwide to 4,325 lei," states the explanatory note accompanying the draft normative act.

Starting with July 1, 2026, the guaranteed minimum gross basic salary per country will be increased to 4,325 RON, which represents an increase of 6.8% compared to June 2026.

Thus, in June 2026, the hourly rate is 24,496 lei/hour for a full work schedule of 165,334 hours per month, and from July the hourly rate will be 25,949 lei/hour for a full work schedule of 166,667 hours/month.

"The proposed increase will have positive effects on economic growth by stimulating employment, increasing the purchasing power of employees and reducing undeclared work. The increase in the guaranteed minimum gross basic wage per country has an impact on the growth of consumption, with an influence on the import of consumer goods," the cited document also states.

According to the initiators of the draft Decision, the increase in the minimum gross basic salary guaranteed in the country influences, in addition to the 1.759 million directly affected employees, many more rights and obligations. Thus, the contribution for unemployed disabled persons will increase, as this calculation is related to the minimum salary. The fine point will also be increased.
