Almost 100 people were rescued from the mountains in the past 24 hours following emergency interventions by mountain rescuers.

"A very difficult day for mountain rescuers. In the past 24 hours, the [Mountain Rescue Service] Salvamont National Dispatch Center received 96 calls requesting the emergency intervention of mountain rescue teams,' Salvamont Romania said on Monday morning on its Facebook page.

According to the same source, the highest number of calls concerned mountain rescue teams in Maramures (17), Lupeni (12), Neamt (11), Predeal (9), and Brasov and Cluj (seven each).

As a result of these interventions, 97 people were rescued.

Of these, 34 were taken to hospital by SAJ, SMURD or Salvamont ambulances. Others were given permission to be taken to medical units in vehicles belonging to relatives, the source added.

"Unfortunately, two people were found dead. They were transported and handed over to the Institute of Forensic Medicine," Salvamont announced.

A further 44 calls were received requesting advice and information about various tourist trails in mountainous areas.
