The Minister of Internal Affairs, Catalin Predoiu, coordinated on Monday, together with Deputy Prime Minister Marian Neacsu, a videoconference with the prefectures and county emergency committees, in the context of the weather warnings of code yellow and code orange.
"We reviewed the situation from January 1 to 5 and the measures for the following days. The priority is to protect people and maintain essential utilities. There were power outages in Alba and Hunedoara counties - at the peak, over 90,000 users were affected. The situation is being remedied: in Alba, the number of users without power dropped from approximately 43,000 to approximately 10,000, and in Hunedoara there are around 5,000. 39 teams are working on the ground in Alba and over 30 in Hunedoara, and where necessary, we sent additional generators, through IGSU, to the affected communities," the minister of the Interior stated in a post on his Facebook page.
He mentioned that the traffic is taking place in winter conditions, but at this moment there are no national or county roads closed.
"I have requested firm measures for the assessment of the roads and, if safety requires it, temporary restrictions. I have requested the early identification of vulnerable people and support for those with medical needs, including in hard-to-reach areas. In addition, given the very low temperatures announced (possibly down to -15 degrees Celsius), I have requested the implementation of the plan for homeless people: ministry's crews and ambulances will intervene so that no one is left exposed to risks," the minister of the Interior emphasized.
According to him, "all the ministry's structures - firefighters, police, gendarmerie, mountain rescue - are on duty and ready to intervene."
On Monday, the National Institute of Hydrology and Water Management issued a yellow flood warning and possible exceeding of warning levels, valid until Tuesday, midnight, on rivers in nine counties.
