A team of researchers from the North University Centre of Baia Mare (CUNBM), part of the Technical University of Cluj-Napoca (UTCN), has launched the Career & Faculty Navigator, a digital application designed to help high school graduates choose their academic and professional paths.

"Launched during the ‘UTCN Career Days' week, the application is a national IT first, being the first intelligent agent developed in a Romanian academic environment, with technological support from the company Holisun. The tool is designed to guide students in the decision-making process regarding the choice of faculty and future career and is available directly via the ChatGPT interface," UTCN said in a press release issued on Monday.

According to the same source, the recommendations generated by the application primarily target universities in Romania, but also include European and global educational options, offering users a broader perspective on available opportunities.

"Although they have access to more information than any other generation in history, today's young people face paralysing anxiety when it comes to choosing a university and a future career. The pressure of technological change, uncertainty on the labour market in the age of artificial intelligence and the multitude of options turn a natural decision into an existential dilemma," research team coordinator Oliviu Matei was quoted as saying in the press release.

The application was developed in response to such challenges and proposes a different approach compared to traditional vocational tests. It does not limit itself to assessing aptitudes, but integrates a complex analysis that correlates users' skills with their psychological profile and personal aspirations regarding their future careers.

The project is the result of collaboration by a research team coordinated by Oliviu Matei and comprising Adrian Petrovan, lecturer Cristinel Costea, lecturer Cristinel Gata, lecturer Bogdan Vaduva, Rudolf Erdei, Laura Andreica and Daniela Curos.

In the next development stage, the team aims to expand the application's functionalities, including by integrating advanced conversational interaction features tailored for everyday use.
