Senate Speaker Mircea Abrudean will pay a visit to Croatia on Tuesday and Wednesday, where he will participate in the Parliamentary Summit of the Three Seas Initiative (I3M) in Zagreb and will have several bilateral meetings.
According to an internal Senate Memorandum, approved by the Permanent Bureau, the invitation was addressed to Mircea Abrudean by the Speaker of the Croatian Parliament, Gordan Jandrokovic.
"The main theme of the Parliamentary Summit will be related to the strategic priorities of I3M in the current geopolitical context. Participants in this major event will address topics such as diversification of energy supply sources, cooperation in the field of defense, aspects related to interconnectivity and the sustainable development of economies in the I3M area," the cited document reads.
Mircea Abrudean will meet with the Prime Minister of Croatia, Andrej Plencovic, the Speaker of the Croatian Parliament, Gordan Jandrokovic, the Speaker of the Lithuanian Parliament, Juozas Olekas.
According to the Senate, I3M is a flexible and informal high-level political platform, which aims to develop infrastructure on the North-South axis in the fields of transport, energy and digital. For geoeconomic reasons, the objective of I3M is to reduce the development gaps between the states of Central and Eastern Europe and the rest of the continent. The platform was launched by the declaration adopted by the inaugural Summit of Heads of State and Government, organized in Kyiv, on August 23, 2021, at which Romania was represented at the level of Prime Minister.
