An Iranian man who was arrested last week for an alleged attempt to enter Britain's nuclear submarine base in Scotland has been released pending further inquiries, Scottish prosecutors said on Monday, Reuters reports.

The 34-year-old was detained on Thursday along with a 31-year-old Romanian woman after Police Scotland reported that two people had tried to gain access to HM Naval Base Clyde, located on Scotland's west coast.

Police said on Saturday that both were due to appear in court in Dumbarton on Monday. However, Scotland's public prosecution service later announced that no legal action would be taken against the woman for now, although the case could be reopened if new evidence emerges. They added that the man had been released from custody pending further investigation and did not appear in court, with the case against him still active.

The arrests came three weeks after the start of the U.S.- Israeli war against Iran. Although Britain has not taken part in the strikes on Iran, its forces have intercepted Iranian missiles and drones in the Gulf region.

HM Naval Base Clyde is a key strategic site for Britain's security, hosting the UK's nuclear-armed submarine fleet as well as its attack submarines.
