A total of 12,100 companies were deregistered nationwide in the first two months of 2026, 3,11 percent fewer than in the same period last year, according to statistics from the National Trade Register Office (ONRC).
The highest number of deregistrations was recorded in Bucharest, with 2,271 (an increase by 4,35 percent compared with January-February 2025), and in the counties of Bihor (504, +7,23 percent), Cluj (493, -14,41 percent), Constanta (481, +35,1 percent), Timis (469, -6,94 percent), Iasi (459, -15,47 percent) and Ilfov (427, +16,03 percent).
At the other end of the scale, the fewest deregistrations were recorded in the counties of Giurgiu (78, down 32,17 percent compared with the first two months of 2025), Tulcea (80, -23,19 percent), Mehedinti (82, -14,58 percent) and Ialomita (85, +23,19 percent).
Significant increases in the number of deregistrations were recorded in the counties of Galati (+43,08 percent), Constanta (+35,11 percent) and Caras-Severin (+31,91 percent), while the largest decreases were reported in Tulcea (-38,93 percent), Bistrita-Nasaud (-38,74 percent) and Giurgiu (-32,17 percent).
By activity area, the highest number of deregistrations was recorded in wholesale and retail trade, repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles, with 2,421 (-18,84 percent compared with the first two months of 2025), agriculture, forestry and fishing (986, -30,66 percent) and construction (918, -10,09 percent).
In February 2026, a number of 5,788 companies were deregistered, the most in Bucharest (1,099), Bihor (292), Cluj (265) and Iasi (247).
