Animal protection is a sign of civilisation and a test of the state's ability to intervene when the law is broken, Internal Affairs Minister Catalin Predoiu said on Sunday, noting that in 2025 Internal Affairs Ministry (MAI) employees rescued more than 1,500 animals in danger.
He said that last year more than 2,200 criminal cases were opened and over 20,000 administrative sanctions were imposed against those who committed illegal acts against animals.
"In 2025, MAI employees rescued more than 1,500 animals in danger, opened over 2,200 criminal cases and imposed more than 20,000 administrative sanctions against those who committed illegal acts against animals. We act in close cooperation with non-governmental organisations and other state institutions, including the Presidential Administration. We will continue these efforts in 2026," Predoiu said in a Facebook post.
