Over 190 foreigners were detected in illegal situations, following actions carried out by immigration police officers during the cold season, including during the winter holidays, and 120 minor offense sanctions were applied, totaling 384,550 lei.
"Even in the cold season, including during the winter holidays, immigration police officers remain on duty for the safety of the community. Through sustained prevention and control actions, carried out both independently and in cooperation with other state institutions, the General Inspectorate for Immigration actively contributes to maintaining a climate of order and public safety, especially in areas with a high influx of tourists," an IGI press release sent to AGERPRES on Monday states.
In this context, immigration police have adopted a series of measures aimed at ensuring an efficient response to the challenges specific to the winter season.
These aim to ensure a climate of public order and safety in tourist resorts and recreational areas, provide institutional support for strengthening international cooperation to allow for the adequate management and counteraction of cross-border criminal phenomena, as well as intensify control actions in environments and places frequented by foreign citizens, in order to comply with the legal provisions regarding the regime of foreigners, the cited source specifies.
Activities specific to the cold season and winter holidays take place between November 24, 2025 and February 28, 2026.
From the beginning of the season until December 31, 2025, immigration police officers carried out 408 actions, both on their own and in cooperation with institutions with responsibilities in the field. As a result, 192 foreigners were detected in illegal situations. Of these, 31 were removed under escort, 14 were taken into public custody, and other administrative measures were ordered against the others or their right of residence was regulated.
At the same time, 120 minor offense sanctions were applied, their total value being 384,550 RON.
