Wizz Air carried approximately 14.5 million passengers to and from Romania in 2025, up 13.1% from the previous year, the low-cost airline announced on Thursday.

According to the company, eight new aircraft were allocated to Romanian airports over the past year, supporting the reopening of the Bucharest Baneasa and Suceava bases and the expansion of operations in Bucharest Otopeni, Craiova, Sibiu and Timisoara.

Wizz Air operated around 75,000 scheduled flights nationwide and launched over 50 new routes from nine Romanian airports.

In 2026, the airline plans to operate more than 30 routes from ten airports, including the reopening of its Targu Mures base this spring and the start of operations in Oradea. Since entering the Romanian market in 2006, Wizz Air has steadily expanded, now offering 238 routes from 14 airports, connecting passengers to 83 destinations in 27 countries. The company currently employs more than 1,600 staff in Romania.

Wizz Air ended 2025 with an expanded and reoriented network and continued improvements in operational performance. The airline added 42 new aircraft, operated around 335,000 scheduled flights across its network, and launched over 320 new routes, strengthening connectivity across Europe and beyond. Passenger demand remained strong, with 68.6 million travellers carried in 2025, a 9.4% increase year-on-year.

"2025 was a defining year for Wizz Air. We expanded our fleet at a sustained pace, opened hundreds of new routes and carried more passengers than ever, while strengthening the reliability of our operations. This combination of scale and improved performance is exactly what sets us apart," said Wizz Air CEO József Váradi.

He added that in 2026 the company will focus on accelerating growth in Central and Eastern Europe and tapping into underserved markets with strong potential.

Wizz Air operates a fleet of 259 Airbus A320 and A321 aircraft and is listed on the London Stock Exchange. The airline was named "Most Sustainable Low-Cost Airline" between 2021 and 2025 by the World Finance Sustainability Awards. In 2025, it ranked among the top major airlines for emissions performance, according to aviation analytics firm Cirium.
