The special flights organised by TAROM for the repatriation of more than 300 Romanian citizens from Egypt have been rescheduled for the evening of March 2 due to delays caused by ground transport on the Israel-Egypt route and by border formalities, the company informs in a press release very early on Monday morning.
'The risk of the crews exceeding their duty time (out-of-duty), with the potential to disrupt the current operation as well as to leave the aircraft grounded in Egypt, is unavoidable. Against the backdrop of congestion at the Israel-Egypt land border and information communicated late to TAROM, the estimated arrival time of the Romanian groups at Cairo Airport points to 6:00 pm in the most optimistic scenario,' the press release said, agerpres reports.
As a result, for the more than 300 passengers, check-in and baggage processing formalities would exceed the minimum time required for a timely departure (by over an hour).
'In order to avoid rushing passengers' transfer and arrival at the airport under pressure - with the risk of bottlenecks, errors, further delays or the emergence of tense situations - as well as any impact on scheduled operations, it has been decided to postpone the repatriation and to collect the groups tomorrow evening (Monday - editor's note) from Cairo, under safe operational conditions,' the company said in a press release issued overnight between Sunday and Monday.
The rescheduling of the special flights is being carried out in coordination with the Romanian and Egyptian authorities, the Romanian Consulate in Cairo and the group organisers.
The company will operate the flights as soon as passengers are able to reach the airport, with all operational conditions aligned to ensure the safe conduct of the flights, the press release added.
