Finance Minister Alexandru Nazare declared on Saturday in Giurgiu that the year 2026 started on the right foot, because a surplus of 850 million lei was recorded, which reflects an increase in revenues, against a background of a decrease in expenditures of almost 6 percent, and stressed the importance of the PNRR projects.
"We started 2026 right, it was seen from the January execution that we have a moderate surplus of 850 million RON, so we no longer have a deficit in January. It is a good sign, we look at it with caution, of course it will not continue, but as a signal at the beginning of the year, I say it is very good, because it reflects a significant increase in revenues, in VAT revenues, against the background of a decrease in expenditures of almost 6 percent in the January execution", declared, on Saturday, at the headquarters of the Giurgiu County Council, Minister Alexandru Nazare.
The signing of the contract for the "Project for the development of water and wastewater infrastructure in the county" took place in Giurgiu.
The minister further congratulated the county administration for its determination to submit an important project for the development of water infrastructure in the county and emphasized that projects with European funds are extremely important.
"I congratulate you for your determination to submit this project, projects with European funds, PNRR, cohesion are extremely important in building the 2026 budget, we will have significantly higher amounts forecast in the 2026 budget, which is the year that practically completes the PNRR, therefore, the number one priority for the 2026 budget will be to cover the amounts necessary for the PNRR projects, but beyond that, it is very important to say, implementation is essential for each ministry, for each agency in particular. The way in which implementation will be accelerated by August is extremely important for spending this money and equally important for consolidating growth in 2026, growth is forecast at around 1 percent for 2026 and the European funds component is essential for supporting growth," concluded Minister Alexandru Nazare.
