Romanian women's ice hockey team secured promotion to Group B of Division II of the World Championship after defeating Croatia 5-2 (3-0, 1-0, 1-2) on Sunday evening in Zagreb (Croatia), in the final match of Division III, Group A.
The Romanian nationals claimed a clear victory in the decisive match, following a campaign that began with a 5-1 win over Bulgaria, continued with a 3-4 loss to Türkiye, a 3-2 win over Serbia (after a shootout), a 2-0 victory against Thailand and concluded with the 5-2 triumph over Croatia, agerpres reports.
Goals for Romania were scored by Orsolya Feher (02:46), Anna Vitos (11:42), Ana Voicu (15:05), Timea Csiszer (37:49), and Maissa Simina (58:56), while Diana Stolar (47:31) and Petra Soldic (48:20) scored for Croatia.
Romania's promotion was also aided by Thailand's 3-2 victory over Türkiye. In another match played on Sunday, Bulgaria defeated Serbia 3-2 after overtime.
In the final standings of the sixth tier of the World Championship, Romania finished first with 11 points, followed by Thailand with 10 points, Türkiye with 9 points, Croatia with 8 points, Serbia with 4 points and Bulgaria with 3 points.
