President of the Senate Calin Popescu-Tariceanu, on Tuesday, called upon a dialogue of political leaders so that a project as Romania's National Strategy for Sustainable Development has some chances to succeed.
"This effort enjoyed a large political support and including the Opposition at that time understood that it needs to participate in accomplishing this strategy. Such wide support is, in my opinion, mandatory because such a strategy must be pursued beyond the electoral cycles, regardless of the parties that succeed at power. This is why, I am concerned to see these days, when talking about refreshing Romania's National Strategy for Sustainable Development, a radicalization, an excessive polarization of the political scene, but also of the Romanian society as a whole," Tariceanu stated, at the event called "For a sustainable future," which was organised by the Sustainable Development Department within the Secretariat General of the Government.
The Senate President added that opposition parties, "unfortunately," make "a title of glory in rejecting in block any proposal of the governing coalition."
"And representatives of several state institutions reach the point of inciting to street protests, including on the level of Romania's President. It's a Talibanism, where Romania's long-term discussions, such is the case of this strategy, are hard to accomplish. Therefore, a fist incentive that I want to address to all political and institutional leaders of Romania is to retrieve the real opening towards dialogue, without which any sustainable development strategy cannot be a success," Tariceanu said.
He added that in an assessment of the last nine years since the adoption of Romania's National Strategy for Sustainable Development, the first objective was achieved - that of connecting the country to a new development philosophy specific to the European Union.
According to him, a second objective set out in the National Strategy for Sustainable Development, with the 2020 horizon, is achieving the current average level of European countries in terms of main indicators of sustainable development. AGERPRES .
