The first rail sled at Straja resort, located near the child-friendly Baloo ski slope, will open on Saturday, 20 December, marking the official start of this year's winter season.
"This is the first rail sled at Straja resort, and because it is next to the Baloo slope, we named it Baloo Coaster. The track is 1.4 kilometres long and features three large hairpin turns. The sled has two seats and runs on two rails, making the ride much safer," Emil Paraul, president of the Pro Straja Association, told AGERPRES on Friday.
The installation cost 2.6 million euros and was funded with European Union support obtained by the investor through the Just Transition Programme.
The ski season at Straja resort will officially open on Saturday, 20 December, with lodge operators estimating that two slopes could be operational with the help of artificial snow.
Visitors can reach Straja by car or by gondola from Lupeni, where a 300-space car park is available at the departure station. Additional parking is also available at the resort entrance.
The Straja ski area offers around 26 kilometres of slopes across 12 runs for all skill levels.
