The Romanian Hotel Industry Federation (FIHR) is launching a 2.5 million lei project aimed at modernising social dialogue and enhancing the skills of professionals in the sector.

'This project marks a moment of institutional consolidation for Romania's hotel industry. We need genuine negotiating capacity, modern working tools and professional representation in social dialogue. In a dynamic European context, competitiveness no longer depends solely on investment in infrastructure, but also on the organisational maturity of the sector. We aim to reduce the skills gap in negotiation and advocacy, accelerate the digitalisation of internal processes within employers' organisations and build a unified and credible voice in our relationship with the authorities. Through our affiliation with HOTREC, we will integrate European best practices directly into Romania's social dialogue mechanisms. We want an industry that is more united, better prepared and more capable of influencing coherent and predictable public policies for Romanian tourism. This European Union-funded project is an essential step in the maturation and professionalisation of sector representation,' said FIHR President Simona Constantinescu, according to a press release issued by the organisation, agerpres reports.

Funded through the Education and Employment Programme 2021-2027, the project aims to digitalise the organisational activities of tourism employers' associations, train more than 40 specialists (leaders, HR experts and communicators) in modern techniques of social dialogue and negotiation, facilitate exchanges of experience and the adoption of best practices from European partners, and strengthen representation in dealings with state institutions.

The project will run for 18 months from the signing of the financing contract, starting in February 2026. Of the total amount, 1.9 million lei represents European Union co-financing and 587,120 lei comes from the national budget. The non-repayable funding covers 100% of the approved eligible value.

The target group includes FIHR member employers' organisations and industry specialists, who will directly benefit from training sessions, digital tools and access to European expert networks. Participants will be selected through a transparent process, ensuring diversity and regional balance.

The Romanian Hotel Industry Federation is the first employers' organisation in Romanian tourism, with 35 years of uninterrupted activity. Present in 28 counties and bringing together properties totalling more than 25,000 rooms, FIHR is a member of the Alliance for Tourism (APT), the Concordia Employers' Confederation and is internationally affiliated with HOTREC - the voice of hospitality in Europe.
