Romania posted a 6% unemployment rate in February, with high youth unemployment at 28.2%

The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate in Romania was 6% in February, the same as reported in January, according to data published on Wednesday by the National Institute of Statistics (INS).

According to the same source, the number of unemployed people (aged 15-74) in February 2026 was estimated at 494,700, up from 490,500 in the previous month, but down compared with the same period in 2025, when there were 501,500 unemployed recorded.

INS data show that the unemployment rate among men slightly exceeded that of women by 0.1 percentage points, standing at 6.1% for men and 6% for women.

At the same time, a high unemployment rate of 28.2% was recorded among young people aged 15-24 during October-December 2025.

For adults (25-74 years), the unemployment rate was estimated at 4.6% in February 2026, with 4.6% for men and 4.5% for women.

The number of unemployed people in the 25-74 age group accounted for 71.6% of the total estimated number of unemployed in February, INS noted.
