The National Road Investment Company (CNIR) and a consortium of engineering firms from Romania and Slovakia - Venturo Investment SRL (lead partner) and Ae Dozoring s.r.o. - on Wednesday signed the contract for supervising the design and construction works on segment 2B Grinties-Pipirig of the A8 Motorway, Targu Mures-Targu Neamt.
According to CNIR, the contract is worth 46.9 million lei and has a duration of 118 months, of which 54 months are allocated for design and construction and 60 months for the works warranty period.
"Today we signed the third supervision contract for the Unirii motorway. We are pleased that, once again, we have managed to bring the supervisor on board alongside us and the contractor from the very beginning, just two days after the start of the design phase for one of the most challenging motorway sections in Romania. The Unirii motorway - A8 - is not only about connectivity between the country's historical regions, but also represents a strategic advantage for economic development, safety and resilience," said Gabriel Budescu, Director General of the National Road Investment Company.
The supervisor will monitor the design and execution of the works, their compliance, as well as the quality of the materials and equipment used.
The contract for the construction of segment 2B Grinties-Pipirig, signed with the consortium SA&PE Construct SRL (lead partner) - Euro-Asfalt d.o.o. - Tehnostrade SRL - Spedition UMB SRL, is one of the largest in Romania, with a value of approximately 6 billion lei, reflecting the difficult mountainous terrain, with nearly 70% of the 31.5-kilometre route consisting of engineering structures such as overpasses, viaducts and tunnels, CNIR states.
"The excavation volumes are also impressive, exceeding 12 million cubic metres, and the material removed from the construction site, which becomes surplus, may be made available free of charge to local public authorities," the same source added.
