The delegation of the Romanian Orthodox Church (BOR) led by Patriarch Daniel was welcomed on Saturday by Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and all Russia, at the Hall of the Throne of the Cathedral of Christ the Saviour in Moscow.
Patriarch Daniel is paying a visit to Moscow, between 2 and 5 December, in order to attend the celebrations marking the 100th anniversary of the re-establishment of the Patriarchate in the Russian Orthodox Church, the basilica.ro website informs.
On Saturday afternoon, Patriarch Daniel will attend the solemn session of the Archdiocesan Synod and will address the plenum made up of 377 hierarchs of the Orthodox Church of Russia and other Primates attending the events.
Upon the arrival on the Sheremetyevo International Airport of Moscow, Patriarch Daniel was welcomed by a delegation of the Russian Orthodox Church made up of Metropolitan Veniamin of Orenburg and Bishop Irinej of Orsk and Gai.
The delegation of the Romanian Orthodox Church is made up of His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel, Archbishop of Târgoviste Metropolitan Nifon and patriarchal adviser Michael Tita, Stefan Ababei, Eparchial Adviser Archdeacon Maxim Tifui and translator Rev. Fr. Eugeniu Rogoti.
Invitations were extended to all Primates of the Autocephalous Orthodox Churches on the 100th anniversary of the restoration of the Russian Patriarchate.
On Monday, 4 December, representatives of the local Orthodox Churchs will concelebrate the Divine Liturgy to mark 100 years since the enthronement of Patriarch Saint Tikhon, the first Russian Patriarch after 1700, when Peter the Great reformed the Russian Orthodox Church.
Spokesman of the Romanian Patriarchate Vasile Banescu told AGERPRES on Monday that the visit of Patriarch Daniel, paid at the invitation extended by Russian Patriarch Kirill is not a bilateral one.
