The lifting of visa requirements for Romanian citizens, Romania - Canada parliamentary cooperation, the ratification of the EU - Canada Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) and of the Strategic Partnership Agreement (SPA) between the European Union and Canada were the subjects approached during the meeting this Thursday of Senate Chairman Calin Popescu-Tariceanu with Canada's ambassador to Romania Kevin Hamilton.
According to a Senate release to AGERPRES, Tariceanu highlighted the good cooperation relations connecting Romania and Canada at bilateral level and within international organisations, with emphasis on their strategic dimension.
Tariceanu also mentioned the important role of the Romanian community in Canada for strengthening the relation between the two countries and underscored the importance of finding adequate means to attract this community into the development of bilateral ties.
The Senate Chairman pointed out that the Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement has been recently submitted to Parliament for ratification and voiced confidence that the agreement's coming into force in the near future will result in the strengthening and consolidation of economic relations between Romania and Canada. At the same time, Tariceanu welcomed the introduction as of 2018 of a direct Romania-Canada flight.
The Senate Chairman also took this opportunity to welcome the successful implementation, starting May 1, 2017 of the first phase of the visa lifting process for Romanian citizens, expressing confidence that it will soon be completed successfully and will seamlessly connect with the complete visa-free regime, the release said.
