The Government approved on Tuesday, through a memorandum, the signing by Romania of the EU-Mercosur Partnership Agreement, between the European Union and its member states, on the one hand, and the Southern Common Market on the other hand.
"The memorandum was approved with the theme: the signing by Romania of the EU-Mercosur Partnership Agreement, between the European Union and its member states, on the one hand, and the Southern Common Market - the Republic of Argentina, the Federative Republic of Brazil, the Republic of Paraguay and the Oriental Republic of Uruguay, on the other hand", the Government spokesperson Ioana Dogioiu told a press conference at the Victoria Palace.
She explained that, in practice, the memorandum provides for the signing by Romania, on behalf of the country, of the EU-Mercosur Partnership Agreement, in the context in which the said Agreement was opened for signature by the Member States with the possibility of signing on 25 March and, respectively, 1 April 2026.
"Once this Agreement is signed, on behalf of the country, the ratification procedures will be carried out at the national level, and the MAE together with MEDAT will draft the ratification law, which will be submitted to the approval of the Romanian Parliament", explained Dogioiu.
According to her, "the memorandum makes the Agreement enter into force effectively provisionally from 1 May, with all its clauses, including the elements of the regulation by which it grants that protection to domestic producers, in order to no longer have to wait for the moment of ratification, respectively the moment of the CJEU".
"Following this signature, the Agreement will effectively enter into force on May 1, but it will be a provisional entry," Dogioiu said.
Ioana Dogioiu confirmed that the Ministry of Agriculture's opinion was negative, when asked about it.
