The Romanian Customs Authority (AVR) and the General Anticorruption Directorate (DGA) have signed a collaboration protocol in the area of corruption prevention, a document that establishes the framework for institutional cooperation in order to promote integrity and strengthen the mechanisms for preventing corruption, AVR announced on Tuesday.

Under this partnership, the two organisations will exchange good practices in the area of corruption prevention and combat, and will also carry out joint information and awareness actions for the customs staff, with a focus on issues specific to institutional integrity.

According to AVR, the General Anticorruption Directorate is a specialist unit with the Ministry of Internal Affairs responsible for preventing and investigating corruption crimes, inappropriate behaviours and other illegal actions committed by the ministry's staff, as well as having powers of cooperation with other public institutions to strengthen integrity policies at national level.

Similarly, at the level of the Romanian Customs Authority, the internal control departments have a mission to prevent and combat corruption among customs staff by identifying and mitigating systemic risks, as well as by promoting an organisational culture based on ethics, responsibility and professionalism.

"Integrity is an essential pillar of the activity of the Romanian Customs Authority and a fundamental condition for the public's trust in our institution. The partnership with the General Anticorruption Directorate strengthens our efforts to prevent corruption risks and contributes to the development of a solid organisational culture, based on transparency, accountability and respect for the law," Chairman of the Romanian Customs Authority Mihai Savin is quoted as saying et the signing ceremony.

At the same time, AVR says that in 2025, it carried out the campaign "Romanian Customs Authority on the Green Corridor of Integrity," under which the public was encouraged to actively contribute to improving the institution's activity and the relationship with it.

"Signing this protocol reflects the firm commitment of the Romanian Customs Authority to promoting integrity, preventing corruption and strengthening inter-institutional cooperation in support of a modern and responsible public administration," according to AVR.
