The decision to leave the government belongs to the 5,000 members of the Social Democratic Party (PSD), said Energy Minister Bogdan Ivan on Tuesday, when asked if he could do better for Romanians inside or outside the coalition.
"Let's not prejudge at this moment the decision that Bogdan Ivan does not make, Sorin Grindeanu does not make, but the 5,000 colleagues from the Social Democratic Party will make on April 20 regarding the future of the government. It's very simple. Let's wait until April 20. Until then, until the last moment, we work, we work with all our strength, regardless of our political color, we all work to ensure a reduced impact of this conflict in the Middle East in a very complicated period. And as long as I am the Minister of Energy, I will work until the last moment to ensure that we have energy, that we have gas, that we have oil products on the market, so that prices do not increase due to this. (...) about the political area, after April 20, after we have the very important consultation "...we will say exactly where we are heading," said Ivan, present at the regional conference "The Economist Romania Government Roundtable".
Asked if he would resign, the minister stated that he would decide based on the party's position.
"That's another discussion, if we talk about this scenario in which the Social Democratic Party is no longer in the current government configuration, it is obvious that I, being part of my team and leader of the party in the capacity of first vice-president, will work with my team. Because I did not arrive here as an individual, but I arrived on behalf of the Social Democratic Party team and the millions of people who have placed their hope in this party. And at the moment, an extensive consultation is taking place, in which I participated together with my colleagues in the last few days, in the south of the country, we are going to reach the whole country, we are going to have an internal consultation at the level of the Social Democratic Party with the 5,000 colleagues who decided to enter the government regarding the direction that the Social Democratic Party will have after April 20. And from this point of view, I think it is very important "so that people know that we are in government to bring stability, to bring economic development, to reduce the negative impact on Romania and the Romanian economy of these international events in the Middle East, and I am a team with the Social Democratic Party and we will go together to the end depending on what we decide," said Energy Minister Bogdan Ivan.
