Students and teachers from Türkiye, Albania, Georgia, and Romania collaborated in the eTwinning project “Family Footprints: Discovering Our Roots Together”, an educational initiative focused on the importance of family, traditions, and cultural identity.
The project brought together schools such as İsmet Sali Bruçaj School, Nilüfer Hatun Secondary School, Hassa Secondary School, Akbay Primary School, B.B. Ordu A.I.H School, Anaz Secondary School, Şehit Sedat Gezer Secondary School, Kutaisi Public School, Gymnasium School “Avram Iancu” from Bucharest, Romania and Antakya Gazi Secondary School, forming a strong partnership based on collaboration and exchange of ideas.
An imaginary family, a real lesson
One of the central activities of the project was the creation of an imaginary family, where students decided on ages, values, and life stories. This helped them reflect on their identity and understand the role of family in personal development.
Throughout the project, students created monthly newspapers, documenting activities and sharing their experiences with teachers and families.
Traditions, food, and quality family time
Students introduced their families, talked about common sayings used at home, and engaged in games and activities together with their loved ones.
A special highlight was the traditional food activity, where students prepared and shared dishes specific to their cultures.
The project mascot and symbolic journey
The students chose the bird “Jay” as the project mascot, a symbol of communication, intelligence, and adaptability. This choice was supported by an educational activity, as students participated in an online documentary viewing about this species.
The mascot became a central element of the project, “travelling” symbolically to different cities in the participating countries, helping students discover local stories and cultural elements.
Creativity and technology
At the end of the project, students composed a song as a result of international collaboration. The song included multiple verses, each representing one participating country.
Students used artificial intelligence tools to add voice and enhance the final product, showing how technology can support creativity.
Project impact
Under the slogan “Remember the past, share today, leave a mark, strong together with our family”, students learned to respect their roots, value their families, and appreciate cultural diversity.
The project developed students’ communication, collaboration, and creative skills in English. It also strengthened the connection between school and family and encouraged students to become more open-minded and responsible.
