National Defense Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Radu Miruta announced on Friday that 21 Army procurement projects ranging from armored vehicles and drones to ships, helicopters, weapons, ammunition, air-defense systems and radars will be contracted "at a rapid pace" in the coming months.

''Romania of deeds. The SAFE project, developed in recent months and worth EUR 16.68 billion, for the modern equipping of the Romanian Army and associated infrastructure, has been approved by the European Commission. It is clear proof that serious work, with well-prepared documents, a proper understanding of eligibility requirements and thoroughly documented proposals, is valuable and removes barriers. This is the key! And yes, the initial plan to revive the national arms industry and make way for local suppliers is now a reality in Romania, after years of unrealized dreams. We will produce part of it in Romania, local suppliers will be involved, we will produce for Romania. Because patriotism is not shouted, but proven," the minister wrote on Facebook.

According to him, the contracting will be carried out ''transparently, through clear criteria, pursuing the best option for the Romanian state".
