Former NATO Deputy Secretary General Mircea Geoana believes that the Parliament's decision to allow the temporary deployment of some U.S. capabilities in Romania is a correct one, which will strengthen the Romanian-American Strategic Partnership, ''which needed such a reconfirmation in a period in which U.S. priorities seemed to be focused, rather, on other geographies''.
''At the proposal of the president and the CSAT, the Romanian Parliament decided to allow the United States to use the Mihail Kogalniceanu base for activities related to the military operation in Iran. A correct and consistent decision, which reconfirms Romania's essential strategic role and validates the need for the further operation and development of a large NATO military base and the American presence on the Black Sea, with demonstrated utility during the wars in Ukraine and Afghanistan," Geoana wrote on Facebook.
He believes that this is a decision that will also strengthen the Romanian-American Strategic Partnership, "which needed such a reconfirmation in a period in which U.S. priorities seemed to be focused, rather, on other geographies."
On Wednesday, Parliament approved President Nicusor Dan's letter regarding the temporary deployment of some U.S. military equipment and forces in Romania.
