U-BT Cluj-Napoca qualified spectacularly for the quarter-finals of the EuroCup men's basketball competition after defeating the Montenegrin team Buducnost VOLI Podgorica 100-82 (29-20, 23-18, 20-25, 28-19) on Wednesday evening away from home in the play-off for this stage.
"U" already had a 14-point lead on the scoreboard at half-time, but the hosts fought their way back into the game in the third quarter. The Romanian champions settled the contest in the final quarter, winning comfortably.
Iverson Molinar was by far the best player for the Cluj side, with 34 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Daron Russell also delivered a remarkable performance with 20 points, 4 rebounds and 7 assists, Mitchell Creek added 13 points and 4 rebounds, while Karel Guzman contributed 10 points and 3 rebounds.
For the hosts, the standout players were Yogi Ferrell with 17 points, 6 rebounds and 3 assists, Juwan Morgan with 14 points and 5 rebounds and Rasheed Sulaimon with 13 points and 4 assists.
In the quarter-finals on 17 March, U-BT Cluj-Napoca will play away against the Turkish team Bahcesehir College Istanbul, who qualified directly for this stage.
The two teams also faced each other in the regular season, with Bahcesehir winning both in Cluj-Napoca (98-90) and in Istanbul (84-72).
