'Carol Davila' Bucharest University of Medicine and Pharmacy - first position in research ranking in Romania

The 2026 edition of the international SCImago Institutions Rankings (SIR) places the "Carol Davila" University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Bucharest in first position among all 52 higher education institutions and research organisations in Romania.

"The result obtained by the 'Carol Davila' University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Bucharest in the 2026 edition of the SCImago Institutions Rankings represents a strong confirmation of the strategic direction we have built in recent years, based on academic excellence, relevant research and international openness, and the fact that we now hold the first position among all 52 universities and research organisations in Romania means not only a prestigious achievement but also a major responsibility. This result reflects the collective effort of the entire university community, teaching staff, researchers, students and administrative personnel and, at the same time, confirms that investments in research, infrastructure and strategic partnerships produce concrete and sustainable results in the medium and long term," 'Carol Davila' University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Bucharest Rector Viorel Jinga is quoted as saying in a press release sent to AGERPRES on Tuesday.

In the subject rankings in the field of Medicine, UMFCD recorded the following results:

*It ranked first in 14 subjects - Anatomy, Cardiology and cardiovascular medicine, Surgery, Critical care and intensive care, Dermatology, Epidemiology, Gastroenterology, Obstetrics and gynaecology, Ophthalmology, Otorhinolaryngology, Pathology and forensic medicine, Pulmonary and respiratory medicine, Radiology, nuclear medicine and imaging, Rheumatology

*It ranked second in two subjects - Anaesthesia, intensive care and pain medicine, Public health

*It ranked third in four subjects - Infectious diseases, Oncology, Paediatrics, neonatology and child health, Psychiatry and mental health

"These results reflect the high level of research activity, the quality of the academic staff and UMFCD's constant contribution to the development of medical sciences, both nationally and internationally," the press release reads.
