The heliport for SMURD (Mobile Emergency Service for Reanimation and Extrication) helicopters, currently under construction on the rooftop of the multi-storey car park at the Galati County Emergency Hospital, is taking shape, Galati County Council President Costel Fotea announced on Thursday.

'We gain time, we save lives. We are expanding the hospital's multi-storey car park to over 460 spaces, building a SMURD heliport, and ensuring direct access to the Emergency Unit (UPU). On the construction site of the hospital's multi-storey car park, works are progressing rapidly. Fibre cement boards and sun-shading slats are being installed on the side façades, and the assembly of the roof covering is nearing completion. At the same time, the contractors are installing the rainwater drainage system. Inside, the firefighting system with hydrants is being fitted,' Costel Fotea pointed out in a press statement.

According to him, the electrical systems are being extended, with associated equipment such as lamps, motion sensors and control instruments also being installed.

Works are also underway on the reinforcement structure for the transfer footbridge.

'A metal staircase is being installed to provide access to the guard room for the personnel serving the heliport. Through the County Council's project to add an extra floor to the hospital car park, 150 new parking spaces will be created. In total, once completed, the multi-storey car park will have over 460 parking spaces, a heliport for the SMURD helicopter, two external lifts, and a 75-metre footbridge for direct patient transfer to the Emergency Unit (UPU),' added the president of the Galati County Council.
