Ongoing water projects amount to EUR 9.68 billion, including about EUR 4.65 billion worth of national funds, and the remaining is European funds, Minister of European Investments and Projects Dragos Pislaru said on Tuesday at the Gala of Excellence in the Water Industry organised by the Romanian Water Association (ARA).
"We recently made an analysis of the water projects. Water projects worth EUR 9.68 billion are underway, including about EUR 4.65 billion national funds, with the remaining being European funds. In addition to the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR), we have a programme designed for sustainable development and water and we had an initial allocation of EUR 2.4 billion, while today we have already signed contracts for EUR 5.6 billion. At the same time, we have projects worth about EUR 355 million under evaluation - three counties and projects of over EUR 1 billion being prepared," the minister said.
According to him, about four million people will have improved access to drinking water.
"Approximately four million people will have improved access to drinking water, 2.3 million people will be connected to wastewater treatment systems, almost 10,000 km of water networks and 10,000 km of sewerage networks. Almost 20,000 km in total of modernised or newly built infrastructure," Pislaru said.
The Romanian Water Association on Tuesday organised the second Gala of Excellence in the Water Industry, an event dedicated to the recognition of performance, innovation and leadership in Romania's water and wastewater sectors.
The Water Industry Excellence Gala is ARA's flagship ceremony and brings together water and sanitation operators, industry leaders, experts, technology providers, representatives of academia and public institutions. The event highlights projects and initiatives that contribute to the modernisation of infrastructure, increasing the quality of services, sustainability and climate resilience. The Romanian Water Association, established in 1995, is the national professional body that represents the water and wastewater sector in Romania and operates as a central platform for dialogue, knowledge exchange and representation at national and international level.
