USR demands dismissal of defence, foreign ministers, expulsion of Russian ambassador
On Wednesday, the Save Romania Union (USR) demanded the dismissal of Minister of Defence Angel Tilvar and Foreign Minister Luminita Odobescu, because they "knowingly lied" to the Romanian people regarding the Russian drone that crash-landed in Romania, told Agerpres.
"After three days of concerted efforts to cover up a major security incident for Romania, Ukraine's intelligence about the Russian drone that crash-landed in Romania is confirmed by the Romanian government itself. Given the circumstances, USR is demanding the immediate dismissal of the defence minister and the foreign minister because they knowingly lied to the Romanian people and irreversibly affected Romania's international image," USR national leader Catalin Drula is quoted as saying in a press statement released by USR on Wednesday.
Drula said that Tilvar, "the English teacher leading the Ministry of Defence at an extremely sensitive time," was the first to deny and "lied to the whole country."
"What's more, he offended our partners in Ukraine with his vehement denial," added Drula.
He went on to say that Foreign Minister Odobescu "lied in Berlin" to an international audience "without a trace of remorse" as head of diplomacy, and so did "her boss, Klaus Iohannis, in the joint news conference with Luxembourg's Prime Minister Xavier Bettel."
"USR is asking President Iohannis to urgently convene the Supreme Council for National Defence (CSAT) and publicly present the measures that have been taken. The time has come to have a president who works for Romania," said Drula.
USR is also demanding the expulsion of the ambassador of the Russian Federation in Bucharest, Valery Kuzmin.
"Romania must send a very firm message to the Russian Federation. Such incidents are unacceptable. The time has come for the ambassador of the Russian Federation, Valery Kuzmin, to be sent home. Valery Kuzmin was only concerned with justifying Russian crimes in Ukraine and encouraging anti-democratic currents from Romania. His expulsion from Romania is long overdue sanitation," said USR Deputy Chairman Dan Barna.
