Romania was safe, is safe and once U.S. capabilities, equipment and troops are in the country, it will be even safer, President Nicusor Dan said on Thursday.
"Romania was safe, Romania is safe and once the U.S. capabilities, equipment and troops are in Romania, Romania will be even safer. So, it is a false hypothesis from which the question starts and in which I saw part of yesterday's public debate", declared Nicusor Dan in a joint press conference with the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, when asked about the heightened tensions in the public and political space after the Parliament's decision on U.S. defensive equipment in Romania and what additional guarantees it offers to Romanians that their country is well defended and protected and will not become a target.
He stressed that there is no additional risk, when asked to what extent Romania will become a target of Iran.
"There is no additional risk. The Deveselu shield has already existed in Romania for many years, part of this equipment comes to complement the Deveselu shield and an additional U.S. presence in Romania is a plus in security, not a minus in security", the president added.
On Wednesday, Parliament approved the letter of President Nicusor Dan, sent after the CSAT meeting, on the temporary deployment of some U.S. military equipment and forces in Romania.
