Snowfall, blizzard to blanket six counties, as rain, sleet hit 14 counties

The National Weather Administration (NMA) on Monday a code orange warning of significant precipitation, snow cover and blizzard at high altitudes, valid until Tuesday evening in six counties, as well as a code yellow warning of rain and sleet in 14 counties.

According to the forecast, between January 26, 10:00hrs and January 27, 20:00hrs, there will be a code orange warning for bad weather in the hilly and mountainous area of the counties of Mehedinti, Gorj, Valcea, Arges, Dambovita and Prahova. Thus, there will be significant rain and sleet that will melt the snow layer. Also, 60 - 80 l/sqm will accumulate.

At elevations higher than 1,700 metres, snowfall will prevail and a layer of snow of 30 - 40 cm will accumulate as the wind will pick up speed on Monday night, with gusts of over 100 km/h, blizzarding snow and reducing visibility to below 50 metres.

In the same time frame, a code yellow of significant rain will be in force in the south of Banat, in the northern half of Oltenia and Muntenia (the counties of Buzau, Prahova, Dambovita, Arges, Valcea, Gorj, Mehedinti and Caras-Severin), and mixed in the mountainous area of the counties of Hunedoara, Alba, Sibiu, Brasov, Covasna and Vrancea, which will trigger the melting of the snow layer. At the same time, 30 - 40 l/sqm will accumulate and isolated over 50 l/sqm.

According to ANM, temporarily, there will be generally weak rainfall in the rest of the country, in the form of rain, and mixed in the mountainous area. On small areas, wind gusts will reach 40 - 45 km/h.
