World No. 5, Romanian tennis player Simona Halep, explained on Wednesday on the WTA website that she will be missing the Toray Pan Pacific Open tournament in Tokyo scheduled between September 19 and 25 due to a left leg injury she suffered after the US Open.
''I am unfortunately not able to play at this year's Toray Pan Pacific Open due to a hamstring injury in my left leg," Halep said in a statement. "I've always enjoyed playing in front of my fans in Tokyo and hope to be back there very soon," she added.
Halep's injury does not seem serious, as she announced that she will play in two Premier tournaments in Wuhan (September 25 - October 1) and Beijing (October 1 - 9) ahead of the WTA Finals Singapore (October 23 to 30).
Halep (aged 24) reached the quarterfinals of the US Open, falling to top seed Serena Williams in three grueling sets (6-2, 4-6, 6-3), according to Agerpres.
