Senate President Mircea Abrudean is paying a visit to Croatia on Tuesday and Wednesday, where he is taking part in the Three Seas Initiative (I3M) Parliamentary Summit in Zagreb and has several bilateral meetings on his agenda.
According to an internal Senate Memorandum approved by the Standing Bureau, the invitation was extended to Mircea Abrudean by the Speaker of the Croatian Parliament, Gordan Jandrokovic.
"The main theme of the Parliamentary Summit will focus on the strategic priorities of the I3M in the current geopolitical context. Participants in this major event will address topics such as diversification of energy supply sources, cooperation in the defence area, issues related to interconnectivity and the sustainable development of economies in the I3M area," the quoted document said.
Mircea Abrudean will meet Croatia's Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic, Speaker of the Croatian Parliament Gordan Jandrokovic and Lithuania's Speaker of the Seimas Juozas Olekas.
According to the Senate, the I3M is a flexible and informal high level political platform aimed at developing infrastructure along the north-south axis in the areas of transport, energy and digital. For geoeconomic reasons, the objective of the I3M is to reduce development gaps between the states of Central and Eastern Europe and the rest of the continent. The platform was launched through the declaration adopted at the inaugural Summit of heads of state and government, held in Kyiv on 23 August 2021, where Romania was represented at prime minister level.
