Romania's unemployment rate falls slightly to 3.34% in February

The unemployment rate recorded at national level fell to 3.34 percent at the end of February 2026, 0.01 percentage points lower than in the previous month and compared with February 2025, the National Employment Agency (ANOFM) announced on Monday.

The total number of registered unemployed was 267,542.

Of these, 62,303 were receiving benefits, down by 1,672 people, and 205,239 were not receiving benefits, an increase by 1,103 compared with the previous month.

By area of residence, 71,515 unemployed were from urban areas and 196,027 from rural areas.

The number of unemployed women on 28 February was 128,493, while unemployed men numbered 139,049.

The largest number of unemployed were aged 40 to 49 (65,282), followed by those over 55 (65,893), while the smallest group was aged 25 to 29 (15,850).

"Regarding the structure of unemployment by education level, those without any schooling and those with only primary education account for a significant share of registered unemployed in the ANOFM records (29.62 percent). Unemployed with lower secondary education represent 34.39 percent of the total registered unemployed, while those with higher education account for 4.73 percent," the ANOFM mentioned.
