The Bega River will reveal its stories to those eager to discover them from September 12-14, in Timisoara, during the "Regata Bega" event, which highlights its history and connections as a living, cultural, and social space.
The third edition of "Regata Bega," organized by the Ecluze Cultural Association (ACE), continues the work of previous editions, when several boats from Serbia crossed the border by water and reached the heart of the city. The symbolic water route between Zrenjanin and Timisoara, opened temporarily for recreational navigation, fostered emotion, visibility, and dialogue between communities, ACE noted Tuesday.
On the first evening of "Regata Bega" from 6 PM, guests from Serbia are again expected aboard their boats, which will dock near the Mihai Viteazu bridge, where a temporary mooring point will be set up. Their arrival officially opens the Regatta and marks the continuation of cross-border collaboration based on friendship, curiosity, and respect for the river that connects Timisoara to Europe.
On Saturday, September 13, the riverbanks will become a space for celebration through music.
"Thirty years ago, we would gather along the Bega, under bridges or on the concrete edges, to listen to music, share a beer, and dream. That's when we began to understand why this river brings us all together. That's when the first dreams about reopened locks, boat journeys, and a Timisoara that communicates with the world via water were born. At that time, Implant pentru Refuz began making history in Romanian rock," the organizers note.
The event is organized by the Ecluze Cultural Association, founded in 2025 by D Proiect, Club D'arc, and the Timisoara supporters' association Druckeria, with the aim of activating the cultural potential of the Bega's riverbanks, promoting local heritage, and reconnecting Timisoara with the waters from which it originated.
