The Agriculture and Rural Development Ministry (MADR) has completed its reorganisation and can no longer withstand another 10 percent cut to its wage fund, Minister Florin Barbu said on Wednesday.
"At this moment, I can tell you very clearly, the ordinance has reached the Ministry of Agriculture. The Ministry of Agriculture has carried out its reorganisation. Moreover, the Agriculture Ministry was the only ministry that did not request additional funds at the budget revision for the wage fund and recorded savings of nearly 14 percent on the wage fund. The Ministry of Agriculture can no longer withstand another 10 percent cut to the wage fund," Barbu said after attending the General Assembly meeting of the National Union of County Councils of Romania.
According to him, the Ministry of Agriculture sent the draft ordinance to the Ministry of Development with a request to be exempted.
"This ordinance was sent back to the Ministry of Development unsigned, with the Ministry of Agriculture included as an exception. (...) Two days ago," Florin Barbu explained.
He said that 77 primary, secondary and tertiary credit authorising officers have been removed at the Ministry of Agriculture.
"We removed almost 480 vacant posts. From this week, we are suspending almost 380 posts, including seconded staff and those who have completed their contribution period and reached retirement age. We reduced nearly 480 managerial positions. We have completed the reorganisation at the Ministry of Agriculture. If we come again with another cut on top of what we have already done, I can tell you that the Ministry of Agriculture cannot function, and the Ministry of Agriculture is a decision-making factor, as was the case in 2025, through the absorption of European funds, when we brought 5 billion euro into Romania," Barbu said.
