President of the European Commission Jean-Claude Juncker welcomed on Wednesday Romania's head of state Klaus Iohannis. The meeting agenda also features, according to the Presidential Administration, "the situation of Romania in respect to the amendments brought to the legal framework regarding the judiciary and the fight against corruption."
President Klaus Iohannis will also have a meeting with members of the Commission.
The Presidential Administration informed last week that, in this context, topics that will be dealt with will be related to the preparation of the Romanian Presidency of the Council of the European Union in the first semester of 2019, as well as topical subjects of the European agenda mainly aiming at the strengthening process of the EU. The agenda also features the negotiations regarding the Union's new, post 2020, financial framework, the deepening of the Economic and Monetary Union, the Union's external and internal security and aspects related to the Union's foreign relations, with a focus on the expansion process and the eastern vicinity.
"President Klaus Iohannis will underscore, during meetings, Romania's strong commitment to contribute to the strengthening of the European design as well as our country's attachment to the principles and values on which the Union is based. Moreover, he will show that Romania's Presidency of the EU Council will have a balanced and objective approach, in the Union's interest and the member states, meant to contribute to the advancement of the European integration process," the Presidential Administration release reads.
At the end of Wednesday's meeting, Iohannis and Juncker will hold a joint press conference.
