Romania's President Nicusor Dan on Friday was welcomed by King Philippe of Belgium at the Royal Castle in Laeken.
After the official reception, the two were scheduled to have one-on-one talks.
The Romanian chief of state is on a two-day visit to Brussels.
On Thursday, Dan met NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte at NATO's headquarter.
Discussed at the meeting were latest security developments in the international environment and those on NATO's eastern flank, with a focus on the Black Sea region, a context in which measures to strengthen deterrence and collective defence were addressed, as well as to increase Romania's security through and with support from NATO.
In the afternoon, Dan participated in a meeting of the European Council.
According to the Presidential Administration, featuring on the agenda of the meetings were major themes for the European Union, largely interconnected and reflecting the current global dynamics. These included strengthening the EU's economic competitiveness, the situation in the Middle East, support for Ukraine, the future European budget, as well as the necessary measures to strengthen European Union's security and defence.
The European leaders also had a discussion with the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, on the geopolitical situation and multilateralism.
