The Mayor of Timisoara, Dominic Fritz, has signed the European funding contract for the completion of Ring Road 2 in the eastern part of the city, with 78 million lei coming from European funds through the West Regional Programme 2021-2027, coordinated by the West Regional Development Agency (ADR Vest).
The new road infrastructure will create an alternative route between the northern and southern parts of the city and will redistribute traffic that currently passes through the Fabric district, according to a press release issued by Timisoara City Hall on Friday.
The municipality is preparing the documentation to launch the tender for the works, which include the construction of a pedestrian and cycling bridge, a road bridge, and a four-lane boulevard linking Enric Baader Street to the J.H. Pestalozzi - Corneliu Coposu junction.
In addition to the main section, the project also includes the redevelopment of secondary roads over a total length of more than 1.5 kilometres, covering seven streets, boulevards and embankments, as well as the modernisation of pavements and the creation of cycle lanes.
The total value of the investment amounts to 136.2 million lei, with the municipality contributing 58.2 million lei from the local budget, while the remaining 78 million lei comes from European funding. The estimated duration of the works is 16 months from the start of construction.
