Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan met with representatives of the international credit rating agency Moody's, at the Victoria Palace, on Thursday, in the context of the periodic review of Romania's macroeconomic and fiscal developments.
The Minister of Finance, Alexandru Nazare, and the Director General of the State Treasury, Stefan Nanu, also attended the meeting, agerpres reports.
The Prime Minister highlighted government measures on controlling public expenditure, maintaining the trajectory of budget deficit reduction, and improving revenue collection, the Government stated in a press release.
'The 2026 budget project targets a budget deficit of 6.2% by the end of the year, while maintaining a high level of investment, taking into account that by August 31, 2026, Romania will complete projects financed through the National Recovery and Resilience Plan,' the release said.
Regarding economic prospects, the Prime Minister stated that the Government will focus on consolidation and economic growth processes.
'The absorption of European funds and support for investments remain priorities. In addition, the Government will focus on the energy sector both to reduce the cost of this resource and to improve the competitiveness of companies. Another objective is to attract foreign investment, particularly in sectors where Romania has a trade deficit,' the release noted.
The head of the Government also emphasised the importance of stability and predictable policies, both from an economic perspective and in terms of regaining citizens' trust in the Romanian state.
The Minister of Finance, Alexandru Nazare, likewise noted progress in the digitalisation of the fiscal administration, which will improve revenue collection, as well as the economic stimulus measures the Government will promote.
'If we maintain the measures established to control public expenditure and work on consolidation and economic growth - which we will, as we have a responsible governmental approach - we will continue the trend of reducing the budget deficit, as Romania has committed to in dialogue with the European Commission and as is healthy for our country's economy,' Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan said in the press release
