Adverse weather conditions affected 172 localities in 23 counties and the Capital over the past two days, where action was taken to clear more than 900 fallen trees and 32 electricity poles, according to data the Interior Ministry (MAI) Command Centre presented on Thursday morning.

A total of 438 vehicles were also damaged, agerpres reports.

During the night of Wednesday to Thursday, all MAI structures worked in an integrated system, with more than 18,000 personnel deployed on field, using over 10,000 special vehicles.

At national level, action was also taken to free 399 vehicles that were no longer able to continue their journey. MAI representatives explained that these vehicles were not actually blocked by snowdrifts or blizzards, but were not properly equipped.

Also due to the weather conditions, some ambulances became stuck in snow in isolated situations. Fifteen ambulances were involved, which were freed by MAI crews, and all patients reached hospital in a stable condition.

At present, traffic is under normal conditions on all motorways in Romania. Fog has been reported to reduce visibility in traffic to below 200 metres, and in places under 50 metres, on the A2 Bucharest-Cernavoda motorway, between kilometre markers 35 and 160.
