Construction works up 8% in 2025 (Statistics Institute)

The volume of construction works increased by 8% in 2025 compared with the previous year, largely due to the capital repairs segment, which rose by 45.6%, according to data published on Thursday by the National Institute of Statistics (INS).

According to the same source, as of December 31, 2025, alongside the overall increase in construction works, a 5.5% rise was also recorded in the volume of new construction works. On the other hand, maintenance and current repair works fell by 4.2% year-on-year, agerpres reports.

By type of construction, increases were recorded in non-residential buildings (+13%), residential buildings (+11.4%) and engineering constructions (+4.5%).

Compared with December 2024, in the same period of 2025 the volume of construction works, as a gross series, rose overall by 5.3%. By structural elements, positive results were recorded in capital repair works (+31.1%) and new construction works (+2.9%). By contrast, maintenance and current repair works declined by 2.7%.

INS data show that, in the final month of 2025, by type of construction, non-residential buildings increased by 25.2% compared with December 2024, while engineering constructions and residential buildings fell by 1.9% and 1.4%, respectively.

As a seasonally and working-day adjusted series, the volume of construction works increased overall by 3.8%. By structural elements, growth was recorded in capital repair works (+34.3%) and new construction works (+1.6%). At the opposite end were maintenance and current repair works, which saw a 2.7% decline in volume.

By type of construction, the volume of works rose in non-residential buildings (+24.5%), but decreased in residential buildings (-1.2%) and engineering constructions (-0.2%).

According to the official statistics, month-on-month (December 2025 compared with November 2025), the volume of construction works increased both as a gross series (+37.2%) and as an adjusted series (+7.2%).
